Honoring My Tatay "PERLOT"

From Saudi with love - my Tatay took a vacation to take care of my Nanay...A dedicated husband and certified caregiver...Most of the times, I was just silently observing him - how he light-heartedly served his wife.

I recall one incident...While I was lying on the floor in our sala, I got awake and saw my Tatay covering my legs with blanket...I was so touched as if I'm still a teenager who's being protected by a father.

His hospitality is natural - he's always ready to offer anything to our visitors...His favorite is hot espresso served in small cups...He's a good listener and has wit and humor...My Nanay's circle of friends is very much amused of my Tatay - how he cracked jokes as "tagabola" in their weekly Bingo social.

There were countless little acts of kindness he has done for us - not only to his family but to others.

I want to thank and honor my Tatay for spending a meaningful vacation with us....I really appreciate all the sacrifices he's been doing for us, his demonstrative love for my Nanay, his simplicity, and faith in God....

I hate this feeling...so many questions on my mind - why and what went wrong? I really don't know the answer....no matter how i keep myself busy, thoughts of the past keep disturbing my sanity...i'm tired of being emotional....Can't help myself but seek help from my one and only dependable friend whom I've ignored in some of the critical decisions in my life...oh, help me GOD!!!

It's true, sometimes "my ways are not Your WAYS." Be My Guide, and help me lead a good life because my ultimate goal is to be with YOU....Searching for my own happiness is never-ending and unattainable....only in YOU can I find true peace and happiness by forgetting myself and finding joy in serving others and expecting nothing in return...Teach me how to love even more, to forgive easily, and to trust once again...

Love is indeed an altar of sacrifice....And you can't find the value of each suffering without the grace of our Lord...

For sure, we'll gonna miss Lola...She's going back to the States after 2 months of vacation...

It's touching how she tried to serve us in her own little ways during her stay..We're all grown ups but we're still being pampered by our Lola..She sees to it that we have food to eat and loves washing the dishes..

We thought she's staying with us for good...but she changed her mind and decided to leave again...She really missed her great grandchildren - Dakota and Kailani.

We're so thankful for the chance to be cared for once again by our loving Lola Ingga....

The old picture was taken two years ago while the recent one was taken last Dec. 24. Obviously, Lala and Tatay have lost some weight. I have longer hair while Michael has grown bigger. Nanay is sitting on a wheelchair - that's the difference in our life now!

It's a family tradition to have a yearly reunion on Dec. 24 - a legacy left by our beloved Lolo Zario. I know he's happy to see us altogether as one family...Tito Dennis came home for a short vacation from Dubai just to spend the holiday with us (it's been 10 years since he's present in Christmas Reunion). Lala and Len were also here (OFW from Singapore)...Tito Boboy came with his two sons - Biboy and Bojie (they're still kids the last time we saw them)....It's a happy moment with my cousins, titas and titos, nieces....but it's the happiest moment to the most phogographed woman that night, "My Lola Luz."

Dec. 19, Contact Center Christmas Party...It's a battle of each decade (50's, 60's, 70's & 80's) And our group "Seventies" garnered the first prize in the presentation. Meech, Jen, and Me danced with the dashing Marius, in the music of "El Bimbo." You could see how colorful and well-coordinated our get-up....We made it!!! We also have Teng in our group but she just joined the Jingle Bells singing contest- we got the 2nd place...

If there's one person who loves me so much, it's my Tito Dennis - a brilliant fashion designer based in Dubai.

I remember one humorous tale about us, it happened long time ago....My Tito bought me a long sleeve, white blouse with a wool vest and skirt at Cinderella...because he always wanted the best for his one and only niece. On Christmas day, I felt faint inside the church because of my warm and three-piece, woolen outfit....

And my Tito never fails to greet me every year, on my birthday...so lucky to have him!

Vanity as a woman....

For the past few weeks, I was not in the mood to write. In fact, my blog serves as my online photo album since I've attended two consecutive wedding events. My focus has been on my look - my vanity as a woman. Imagine, the last formal occasion I attended was the wedding of my friend "Jenny," way back year 2000.

Dressing up in special occasion is rare to me, so why not take the chance! Then I usually ask my cousin "Dith" to play the role of an amateur photographer.

Isn't it amazing that I could preserve my pictures through my blog? At least, I have an outlet for my superficial inclinations. I know many women could relate with me, and there are some guys, too!!!

My mom had a stroke last Sunday but we're thankful that she's recovering faster. With the support and prayers of our family and friends, I believe she'll be back into her active state soon. In fact, she'll be discharged from the hospital on Monday.

2008 is a tough year for our family but God has been empowering us. He's been our refuge and stronghold.

Magpugay tayo kay "Magnolia" ay sya ang no. 1 friendship coordinator natin kahit pag kasama mo ay kung sino-sino ang tinatawagan at laging late pero sponsor naman in fairness...At ciempre, lubos din ang kasiyahan namin pag umuuwi si "Polet" (buti na lng single sya at wala na ang focus sa papa) at naaaliw kami sa mga pakikibaka nya...Di natin makakalimutan ang fave hang out natin ay ang bahay nyo, dami nating memories don...lagi tayo nagcoconcert nina Beteng at may tagisan pa ng talento - performance level lng!!! Dapat ka lng makibaka kc "Bakalyn" screen name mo....Di tayo kumpleto kung wala si "Beteng" kc numero unong okray sya...runner-up lng ako...Di pwede sa grupo natin ang sensitive ever at di tatagal, pero nice naman tayo, di ba?

Last Monday, I got a text message from Beteng that he was stranded at Marcos Hi-way due to heavy rains and flood. "Nakasakay ako sa truck ng bakal, iniisip ko na lang ay nasa float ako ng Manila Film Fest (MFF)"...At 12:45AM, he texted me again, "Dream, Believe, Survive!..I already got home."

How can you resist the charm of this person who can still inject humor in trying situation...The reason why I'm happy single is I surround myself with happy people and Beteng is one of them.

Best Meaning of HUMILITY....

"Humility is expecting nothing from mankind and looking to God to meet all our needs."

When I came across this quote from a book I borrowed from a friend, I jot it down because it's the best definition of humility I've ever read and heard. It's a humbling experience for me because as I assess my life, I must acknowledge that I'm quite proud. Most of the times, I would go on my own way without consulting God in my life's major decisions. I just rely on my instincts and convictions that my choice is good and will make me happy. It's not being humble whenever I expect other people to return the favor I've given them. I have no right to brag about any little act of kindness I've done because all those blessings came from God. I'm just an instrument in sharing God's benevolence to mankind and I'm not capable of doing it without His grace.

I felt humbled by this beautiful meaning of "HUMILITY."

There's a long way to go....more humbling experiences to help us transform into a more loving person God has intended us to be. We should never be weary in caring for others without expecting in return. We should have more of God's confidence in our life - for us to be meek and humble at heart.

My Lolo Zario's Birthday...

There are a lot people who have influenced my life and my Lolo Zario is one of them. Though he had already joined our Creator few years ago, great memories of him are still vivid on my mind. And I do believe that he's still with me in spirit and he never fails to pray for me.

It's his birthday and I thank God for the chance to be loved by a "LOLO" who has a lot of humor but a caring heart. That's the legacy he has left and it's an inspiration to all of us.

I do miss my Lolo Zario, especially the special love and attention he has given me!!!

I just slept for four hours from duty...i don't mind but have to rush to the movie house....why? it's 1st day of showing - FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! I'm not a fan of Megastar but I simply admire her daughter KC Concepcion...Last year, I got a chance to see her in person, doing a commercial shoot and was starstruck! From then, I've become one of her fans....She got beauty, brains, talent & a heart!!!

You have to watch this film...you'd not only fall in love with the place, "Greece" but to KC and Richard! They're both beautiful onscreen - great chemistry, great character and great romance!!! I want to watch it again....sobrang ganda at nakakakilig! After seeing the movie, I hurriedly text my friends and recommend this movie...Don't miss it! The New Phenomenal Love Team in Philippine Cinema.....

A Woman of Faith - TITA PRECY!

If there's one person I'd run to in times that I need intercessory prayers, it's my Tita Precy! It's still my day off, so I thought of calling her...and it was a sensible conversation with her. I love listening to her sharing and testimonies - triumphs over trials through the grace of God.

It's my chance to honor my Tita Precy. She's the beloved mom of my good friend "Joyce." She continuously inspires me with her demonstrative love and persevering spirit ...After a dialogue with her, I felt gratefulness in my heart because she touched me again.. I do consider her as my second mom, too!!!

Let me share a text message I just received:

Good people make us see what it means to be blessed by God. He blessed with good people...so let me say "THANK YOU" for being one of my blessings."

6) and the most recent one, BLOG!!!

There's one thing I'd want to add but I don't have the motivation to do so...EXERCISE!!! I've just read recently that we need God's grace to carry out such activity....Well, to make my day off relaxing as well as rewarding....my first "TO DO LIST" should be "BONDING with GOD." I just thought of it while I'm writing my post now...

Starting tomorrow, my TO DO LIST:
1) Bonding with God 2) exercise............and the last one, BLOG and Thank GOD!!!

When I posted our picture at Friendster, I received a message from my college friend, asking if "he's the lucky one." Single life has lonely moments but with my friend "Beteng" around, you won't entertain such thought. He could get your full attention with his comic way of narrating. He could help you temporarily forget your problems - just laugh and never sweat the small stuff!

Being amused by most of his stories, I would also share the laughter with my other friends. I'm lucky that I have a lot of "clowns" in my life- they know who they are!....If Ate Guy has Kuya Germs....well, I have my gigantic buddy "Beteng."

I'd rather not tell some of our crazy moments together because I have to protect the image of Mr. Baltazar - a full-fledge teacher.

It's been almost five years since our friend "Dhez" left for a work opportunity abroad. This afternoon, I and Weng went to her hometown - to visit her mom, sister Elaine and two sons. It's a 2-hour trip but we're glad to see her family. Staring at her mom and youngest son "Joshua" reminded us of our good friend.

We savored the special pancit and bibingka. We enjoyed the stories of her cool mom and the contagious laughter of her beautiful sister "Elaine." We got a chance to kiss her sons. We talked with Dhez over the phone and felt how touched she was to have us in her home. We also paid a visit to the Parish of Father Pio in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

It's a wonderful day for me and Weng! We're thankful that we've made our friend happy in our own simple way....and we appreciate the hospitality of her family!

We fondly call her "Etang" - which stands for "Etang Dicher", a famous villain in Sampaguita movies in the 60s and 70s. Contrary to her pet name, is a loving mother, doting grandmother and a friend.

She's the mother of my bestfriend Ailene, who treats me like her own daughter. I'm always welcome in their home and has been a part of her feeding program eversince. She's a typical homebody mom who loves to cook and do the chores. After doing her tasks, she relaxes by watching TV solely on Channel 2. Her favorite is none other than Kris Aquino. She's a regular follower of the network's noontime shows, soap operas, reality shows, etc...In short, she loves showbiz and the buzz!!!

She's easy and fun to be with! A beautiful widow with a good heart!

I've shared a lot of funny memories with my colleagues. And I've been with this department for almost five years. We may have differences but we've tried to get along and have helped each other in so many ways.

Of course, I won't forget what I've learned from a call center job. I've overcome my fears of speaking with people from all walks of life. I've been trained on how to manage different kinds of emotions, especially "anger." I've mastered the skill of keeping my poise and composure in dealing with irate clients. I've become a better and stronger person through my internal and external customers. Lastly, I've discovered beautiful friendships and that's the most I'm thankful for.

Live Twice - take pictures and blog!!!

Since I started with this hobby, my Canon Ixus camera has been a regular companion. Recently, I tried taking pictures in black and white and the results are quite amazing. Of course, my favorite subject is people. Since we're already in the digital era, you could take as many pictures as you want! I usually save my photos in my desktop, laptop, cd and usb. Imagine I've been using various back ups, just to safeguard memories.

Why not start living twice by capturing moments in your life by taking pictures and having an online journal? Original photos and nice thoughts will surely create a remarkable BLOG!

Almost once every week, I indulge myself into a relaxing body massage. It's a 2-hour whole body massage in the sanctuary of my own room. It's being performed by my sole reflexologist who is using a soothing, aromatic oil. After the process, you'll feel rejuvenated and recharged.

With such wonderful experience, I'm encouraging everyone to give yourself a treat - an escape from a work-loaded day-to-day life. After all, it's all you've got! It's one way of pampering yourself!

My father always used to say that when you die, if you've got five real friends then you've had a great life.

Hold a true friend with both your hands. Friendship is one mind in two bodies. Don't walk in front of me... i may not follow. Don't walk behind me... i may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.;

We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere; Friends are God's way of taking care of us.

I just got the title from the e-mail of my cool classmate Geneveve via our Batch Yahoo Group. Seeing the lovely pictures of my batchmates has inspired me to write about their recent gathering. They just had a Reunion at San Francisco which was hosted by Sarah and Venaida. Among the attendeees are Ailene, Theresa, Muriel, Ma-an Abreu, Grace, Jhayne, Junie,and with their families.

Imagine how they they took time out to break the monotony of their hectic life in the States. And Geneveve came from Canada to bond with them, and to quote what she said , "Pictures alone cannot express the joy, fun, love and drama we had the past four days!"

Missing Magnolia....

Last night, Beteng, Milet and I went out for a delectable dinner at Don Henrico’s. After eating their special buffalo wings and onion rings, we decided to stay at Figaro for a cup of coffee and chitchat.

I could still recall during our younger years, we loved to drink and party a lot. Now, we're just coffee drinkers - clear sign that we're getting older. We used to hang out at Soundstage, Sportzone, Tia Maria, Hard Rock Café, etc. Almost every weekend, we had gimmicks, and our regular buddy was – Jing. Among our close friends, Jing had the most number of pet names such as Aiko, Princess Punzalan, Tutti Fruity, Mining, Maya, Sweet Payumo, Carol Banawa, but the most popular was Magnolia dela Cruz – screen name of Ate Guy in one of her movies. Before Jing left for a job in New Jersey, we had a 4-day vacation at the beautiful Island of Pagudpod.

Our bestfriend, “Magnolia” now lives in Portland. We missed her so much! How I wish Jing could visit my website and enjoy looking back at our happy, old days together….

I do love to write. One of my dreams is to become a Hallmark card writer and to write a book that will touch the lives of many. In fact, I have a collection of thoughts which I kept for years. I’m thinking that maybe one day, I will have an opportunity to share my thoughts and feelings to others.

And that opportunity has come when my friend gave me an idea about blogging. At first, I’m just enjoying it – publishing my posts and uploading photos of my family and friends. I could not believe that I already have my own website. Then I asked some of my close friends to view my blog and I got some positive feedback.

It’s a different kind of fulfillment realizing that people from different parts of the world can connect with you. And I’ve met a number of friends on the web through blogging. There are some bloggers who are making a lot of money by writing about products and services through blog marketing. By visiting their sites, I learned about PayPerPost.

So I signed up for this blog marketing and got approved in less than five hours. And now, I’m ready to post my first blog as a bonafide PayPerPost member. Aside from fulfilling my dream of sharing my thoughts to the world, I’ve also discovered a rewarding hobby. It's about time to pursue my real passion and enjoy the benefits of getting paid for a good job. With the extra earnings, I'm pretty sure that it will go a long way.

A touching family story...

It happened March 29, 2004, eight days after my birthday....

The whole family we're just enjoying eating pizza for dinner....Suddenly, my sister Lala had difficulties in breathing...My mom and I were both hysterically shouting for help...I was praying so hard...

We rushed her into the nearest hospital and was given immediate care. And the diagnosis was overfeeding...It's funny but that incident has terrified all of us.

We're jampacked in the emergency room. My brother came over. Tita Precy, tita Helen, tita Lina, tito Jing and tita Amy were there, too.

My sister is really valuable to us. Thank God, we got over that trial...

We've been praying for Lala - her dream of becoming a doctor!

And now, her dream is already a reality! She's a blessing, indeed!

immiscible?

When I got home yesterday, my father asked me if I knew the word, "immiscible." He told me about my 10-year old cousin who gave him an idea of such word. My cousin said, "oil and water are immiscible or can't be mixed." Honestly, the word was strange to me and I can't recall that it was taught in any of my Science classes. Then I hastily searched through Google and found out that it does exist. With amazement, I just praised my cousin for introducing a new word to us.

I just attended Marco's 1st birthday - youngest son of my officemate. The party was well-attended. We enjoyed the yummy food and the beautiful venue. We also had fun watching the kids joining parlor games and laughing out loud...

I was with Arlene, Badong, Tita Julie and Quane. We shared table with Maricel and her two kids, Botchok and Pam. Teng, Lanlan, Jupiter, Ces, and Raffy came over, too. I've also seen some familiar faces of former employees of our company.

I was just reminiscing our "2006 Summer Vacation" at Balibago Island - the hometown of my father. I fondly call it, "Island of Desire."

I was with my two funny friends, none other than "Beteng and Dupong." They're both headturners, with their exotic look, large body built, and beautiful smiles.

It was a short escape from our normal life - inexpensive but lots of fun! And we're overwhelmed by the cordial reception of the island folks. For sure, there'll be a Part II....very soon!!!

My sister who’s working in Singapore came home for a 5-day vacation. We’re all surprised to see her again. Since she arrived, it’s always like a feast in our house. There’s delight in every one’s heart with my sister “Lala” around. It’s a short vacation but well spent with her family.

Saying goodbye is inevitable. There were times that I was already numb when a family member or friend would be leaving. Maybe, I'd just wanted to suppress my real emotion or I got used to it. Last Sunday, I didn’t cry when my sister left again. We just hugged and kissed each other. I heard her saying, “till my next return.”

Wilfred – fondly called as “Will,” a pet name suited to his personality. When he wants something, he has the will power to get it. Our friendship has grown deeper in a short period of time. This person is genuine - what you see is what you get from him! He’s vain but thoughtful. He’s an outstanding son, an affectionate brother, and a dependable friend.

Angela – her nickname should be “Angel” because she really knows how to care. She’s been through a lot in life but she maintained her poise and forgiving nature. I witnessed how she had easily recovered from the tragic loss of her home. I really admire her resilience. She is beautiful – in and out!

Thank God, it’s Friday! It’s been a stressful week so I deserve a treat. I quickly ordered for a breakfast value meal at Tropical Hut. I also got one spaghetti for my friend, Maricel.

It’s a yummy meal - fried rice, egg, longganisa and brewed coffee…I’m already full but still craving for a chocolate cake. Surprisingly, after two hours, my good friend “Weng” gave me a chocolate cake. It really made my day.

How amazing to immediately receive the reward for your simple act of thoughtfulness!

Value of Sufferings

Few days ago, I received a text from my friend. The message that struck me was:

“I won’t dare to question God for the reasons of my sufferings and anguish because I never tried to question Him whenever I feel happy and fortunate.”

There were instances in my life that I did question God. It’s when difficulties seem to weaken me. I felt guilty because my only focus was the problem. I was so proud that I’ve failed to look deeper into my imperfect human nature.

Our Lord is holy and perfect but He chose to live, suffer, and die for each one of us. How marvelous is His love!

I need to be more trusting to God. I need to give Him the freedom to change me and make me a better person through my own sufferings.

Achilles' heel?

The American Heritage Dictionary defines “Achilles’ heel” as a weak point. It came from the myth that Achilles was vulnerable only in the heel.

Like Achilles, we also have our weaknesses. We should look deeper into ourselves and should work harder on our weak spots. With faith and God’s grace, we can overcome our weaknesses and be triumphant in our life’s battle.

I love to read but I’m a selective reader. I’m not the imaginative type so I seldom read novel or fiction. I tend to read lifestyle and showbiz magazine, self-help and inspirational books. I’m fascinated with the timeless message of a Hallmark card. I have great interest in people – how they’ve successfully and meaningfully lived their lives.

I prefer reading materials that are simply written and direct to the point. I always keep in mind that the purpose of a writer is to express and to get the message across. Otherwise, I won't give myself a hard time reading a complex book.

Let me introduce one of my favorite authors, Zig Ziglar, a celebrated motivator. I highly recommend his book entitled, “You Can Reach the Top.” It’s something you’d read over and over again. You may visit his website at www.zigziglar.com.
